Browsing For Feature Films

January 30, 2009

Have you ever wanted to browse a list of the feature films owned by the library?

You can, of course, search our library catalog for the title of a specific DVD you are seeking, but sometimes folks just want to peruse a list of what we own.

If you would like to see a list, follow the steps below:

Go to the Johnson & Wales University Library:

1. click on the “Library Catalog” link on the left

2. click on “Keyword” link in the blue box to open the advanced search interface

3. enter “motion picture” in the search box

4. choose “–J&W – North Miami, Florida” as the Collection

5. choose “VIDEO/DVD” as a Material Type

6. click on the “Submit” button to see your results

Finally, you can sort the movies by date (default) or alphabetically by title.

You can also try “feature films” as another keyword phrase in your search.

The Chef’s Garden; A Model of Sustainability

January 26, 2009

Located in Ohio’s Huron County, the Chef’s Garden is a laboratory, seed bank and research-and-development center. I didn’t know that until I read about it in the current issue (January ’09) of The National Culinary Review, the official magazine of the American Culinary Federation. The article titled Back To Our Roots, by Jan Greenberg, emphasizes the trend toward sustainability in farming and food production techniques. Over 500 chefs visited the farm last year. The farm attempts to provide the chefs with what they need and want, rather than the chefs having to make do using what is produced in conventional farms. The point is made that using the best ingredients makes any chef’s job easier and results in having happier customers.

The National Culinary Review is a monthly publication. Current and back issues (2002 to the present) are located in the Library. Electronic access is also possible by searching for articles in LexisNexis Academic, Biography Resource Center, Business & Company Resource Center, General Business File ASAP, Science Resource Center, Academic Search Premier, and MAS Ultra – School Edition.

January 12, 2009

When applying for an original Florida driver’s license or identification card, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles does not accept driver’s licenses or identification cards issued by other states as primary identification. Effective October 1st, 2008, proof of social security number, if issued, is required. Proof of residence and proof of birth date are also required. A complete list of acceptable documents that will meet these requirements is linked from: Required documentation for non-U.S. citizens desiring a Florida driver’s license or state issued identification card is also linked from this web page.
