When applying for an original Florida driver’s license or identification card, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles does not accept driver’s licenses or identification cards issued by other states as primary identification. Effective October 1st, 2008, proof of social security number, if issued, is required. Proof of residence and proof of birth date are also required. A complete list of acceptable documents that will meet these requirements is linked from: http://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/faqkeys.html. Required documentation for non-U.S. citizens desiring a Florida driver’s license or state issued identification card is also linked from this web page.
